Charles Cunniffe Architects Summer ‘In the News’

We have had much to celebrate this summer, Charles Cunniffe Architects turned 30 and our fearless leader, Charles Cunniffe, turned 60. We were also recognized by our peers for our work on the Fullerton Residence and the Little Nell Residence. Both of these were awarded the Merit Award at the 48th Annual Gold Nugget Awards that are open to builders, developers, architects and land planners.

Our Fullerton Residence also received the Grand Award and was recognized for its exceptional design and planning. The judges state “This is quite possibly the most amazing make-over ever. Due to restrictive city codes and the proximity of a river, the foundation could not be altered, yet the architects managed to transform a specimen of terribly bad 1980’s architecture into a work of art. The new design uses reverse shed dormers to capture mountain views, opens up the interior spaces to sunlight and breezes, and re-faces an existing ugly fireplace with a patina steel surround that commands attention but in a good way. Concrete and bamboo form a running vocabulary inside and outside the home, giving it a quiet, organic sensibility”.
