After three years in a United State Infantry Division, Jim began his studies on the East Coast as an Art Major. After earning his Bachelors Degree in Interior Design, he made a natural progression, earning a Masters in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.
As an avid outdoor enthusiast Jim moved to Park City, Utah and worked in various firms focusing on education, commercial and mountain residential projects. After a number of years in Utah, Jim joined DeStefano + Partners in Chicago to focus on education projects. While in the Midwest Jim earned the position of Design Director for a leading architecture and interiors firm in St. Louis, expanding his focus to corporate and public work.
Jim made his way back to Aspen and worked with Z Group Architects before joining CCA. Jim’s experience spans from public buildings, educational facilities, corporate headquarters, mixed use to residential projects. The range and scale of these projects includes a variety of public and educational projects of up to 200,000 square feet, a $23M Financial Data Center, and work with community oriented non-profit clients, and was project and design lead for the RFTA BRT System architecture in the Roaring Folk Valley. Many projects under Jim’s lead have received Design Awards including: National School Board Association Citation Award 2001, West Valley Elementary School; the Theresa Bradley Spirit Award for Excellence in Design, Huish Corporate Headquarters; Regional Design Excellence Award and a Masonry Excellence Award, Edward Jones Data Center, and an A.I.A. Merit Award for Dennis & Judith Jones Performing Arts Center in St. Louis.
This diversity of clients and project types gives the Jim a wide range of design sensibility with particular emphasis on defining clients’ goals within parameters of budget, scale, and materials to achieve creative and appropriate architectural solutions.
Jim continues to enjoy the outdoors, skiing, trail running, backpacking and living in Snowmass with his 2 children.
