SOFA Invades New York

This past weekend marked the 15th edition of the Sculpture Objects & Functional Art Fair (SOFA) in New York City. SOFA New York is a favorite among art enthusiasts, a place where one can buy one-of-a-kind pieces crafted by internationally renowned artists.

This year New York-based architect David Ling transformed the Park Avenue Armory into a work of art with his ode to contemporary and modern design.

“Floating high over the exhibitions will be a huge cube of light, out of which smaller blocks of light explode, traveling to all points within the hall like newly formed stars,” says Ling. “I based the concept on the Big Bang Theory. It’s about creation, re-creation and energy, the origin of the universe in the Big Bang.  It served as an inspiration for a modernist constellation to light this year’s SOFA NEW YORK. And with the fair’s universe of offerings,” adds Ling, “I think my concept is a fitting one.”

Martingale Wins Four Design Awards

Charfoos Design, the interior design firm we partnered with on Martingale/Aspen Retreat recently took home four Detroit Home Design Awards. As Architect for the project, we teamed with Lynda and Vinny Partyka of Lone Pine Construction to complete the extensive remodel and addition. The project was awarded Best Contemporary Interior, Best Use of an Art Collection, Best Master Suite and Best Vacation Home Outside Michigan. Collaborating with Lynda Charfoos on this home in Snowmass was an honor given her sharp eye and smart, sophisticated design aesthetic. The result was a well-planned, fresh and clever vacation retreat.

Did you know that Aspen Golf Club is the #1 muni course in Colorado?

It’s true – Aspen Golf Club is ranked the 21st municipal course in the U.S. and ranks #1 in Colorado. Charles Cunniffe Architects had the great pleasure of working with Rick Phelps and Dick Phelps on the Aspen Golf Clubhouse and Nordic Center. The team worked together to create a better relationship between the golf and Nordic functions and the clubhouse by reworking the 18th green and the building and dining deck. With CCA’s guidance the clubhouse moved 200 feet closer to the hole, and further from the highway, enhancing the guest experience and revenue potential. The clubhouse design is still utilized in its intended fashion and has become a great gathering place year round.

One Fun Ski Day!

Each year, we grab the whole office and head out for an afternoon of skiing. With temperatures in the 60’s we made the most of it with a fabulous lunch at the Aspen Mountain Club, some fast groomers, slush bumps, and drinks at the Sundeck. Thank you to Charles for this rewarding afternoon off – with our team working at full capacity it was a blast getting outside together!
