CCA was selected through a rigorous RFP process to serve as Local and Design Architect in partnership with ZGF Architects for the new Aspen/Pitkin County Airport terminal, a once-in-a-generation project to reimagine the gateway to the Roaring Fork Valley. The selection reflects a shared commitment to the community-led ASE Vision “Common Ground” recommendations and a thoughtful design process that balances world-class sustainability and performance with Aspen’s unique sense of place. CCA’s deep local knowledge, ZGF’s national aviation expertise, and focus on community engagement will guide the design as the team refines concepts like the preferred 2+ layout and advances toward schematic design that respects the scale, landscape, and values of this extraordinary mountain region.

For CCA, this engagement builds on decades of connection to Aspen’s built environment and to the airport itself. Founding Principal Charles Cunniffe, FAIA, brings both professional insight and personal dedication as a pilot and longtime member of the community, ensuring the design honors Aspen’s contextual character while advancing thoughtful, sustainable architecture that serves locals and visitors alike.
