Aspen Police Department

Aspen Police Department

The Aspen Police Department building balances community-focused design with functional sustainability and firefighter wellness, providing a forward-thinking facility that reflects Aspen’s commitment to both its residents and natural surroundings.

The facility was meticulously planned to align with Aspen’s community character and to meet LEED Gold and WELL Building standards, highlighting a commitment to sustainability and wellness. Thoughtfully designed to serve Aspen’s dynamic population—6,600 residents and up to 27,000 seasonal visitors drawn by skiing, festivals, and outdoor events.

Positioned along Main Street, the headquarters creates a welcoming civic presence. A pedestrian pathway connects Aspen’s historic core to nearby mixed-use developments, while the building’s westward siting preserves a green corridor, enriching the new municipal park and offering natural views from the office interiors. This green space provides abundant daylight to workspaces, boosting wellness and energy efficiency.

Inside, the layout encourages collaboration and community, with open workspaces, adaptable meeting rooms, and informal gathering spaces for team interaction. A central circulation spine spans from the Main Street entrance to the secure northern end, minimizing compartmentalization and fostering a sense of unity. The second-floor community room, accessible from the public lobby, includes an outdoor deck and doubles as a training space for officers, blending civic accessibility with operational function.
