Roaring Fork Fire Rescue 45

Roaring Fork Fire Rescue 45

The Roaring Fork Fire Rescue Authority Station 45 in Snowmass Village, Colorado, needed a complete overhaul. Originally built in the 1960s, the station faced outdated systems and lacked space for its expanded fleet. In 2014, CCA was hired to assess and masterplan the new facility, ultimately selecting the existing site due to cost and space constraints of alternative locations.

The new 30,000 sq. ft., two-story facility now meets the Fire Department's needs while prioritizing firefighter wellness and community engagement. It includes seven apparatus bays, eight on-duty crew quarters, six resident firefighter apartments, administrative offices, and a training/community room. A focus on wellness is woven into the design, with spacious living quarters, ample natural light, private rest areas, and physical training spaces that support the physical and mental resilience of the firefighters.

Design considerations for neighbors, like Anderson Ranch Arts Center and Snowmass Chapel, led to low-sloping roofs and horizontal visual elements that harmonize with the surroundings.

Large windows provide natural light and views, while overhangs protect against weather. The contemporary design, with varied heights and natural materials like stone, metal, and timber, fits seamlessly within the Snowmass Village landscape, creating an inviting and functional public facility.
