Charles Cunniffe Architects (CCA) is honored to share that our team has been selected as the Local and Design Architect, partnering with ZGF Architects, for the new Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) terminal. This once-in-a-generation project will deliver a community-centered, highly sustainable terminal that
reflects Aspen’s character, values, and vision for the future.
Over the next 18 months, our collective team will advance the design guided by the community-led ASE Vision “Common Ground” recommendations. This process will include extensive public engagement, ensuring that the terminal reflects the voices and priorities of the Aspen community.
ZGF brings national expertise in mass timber and low-carbon design, including their celebrated work on the Portland International Airport terminal. With their focus on decarbonization and sustainability, and CCA’s deep understanding of Aspen’s unique context, codes, and community priorities, this partnership is set to deliver a terminal that’s both forward-thinking and deeply rooted in place.
“We’re deeply honored to join this team of passionate design and engineering professionals. As both a pilot and a long-time Aspen community member, I’m committed—as is our entire studio—to a design process that is inclusive and collaborative, and to a terminal our community can be proud of for generations.”
– Charles Cunniffe, FAIA, Founding Principal
This milestone project represents not only a new gateway to Aspen but also a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and community connection—values that are at the heart of our work at CCA.
