Recipient of four architectural awards and set on the banks of a scenic river, applied Zen-like applications of concrete, Bamboo, glass, steel and various woods, enabled CCA to design a very contemporary space, yet maintain the warmth for this family’s primary residence.
In the initial design phase, the clients feared that utilizing concrete would create a cold and stark, museum-like feel. To juxtapose the formed concrete, a combination of caramelized Bamboo flooring, vertical grain Figured Anigre, horizontal Zebra and Melamine wood cabinetry, ceiling, and walls were designed to warm the space. Caramelized Bamboo flooring was used throughout the main floor and was used to wrap the cantilevered patina steel staircase. Energy efficient appliances, windows and doors improved the overall functionality of the home.
The open kitchen shows large forms of architectural grade concrete, Figured Anigre wood cabinetry and a large custom stainless hood. The kitchen flows directly through to the dining and Great Room with the patina steel wrapped stone fireplace. The woods carry through to the master with cut limestone slabs forming the master bath walls.
The exterior of the home is clad in clear, vertical, tight-grain cedar siding and embellished with steel and patina accents. Custom designed and constructed copper and wood windows were streamlined in the design, simplifying the feel and aiding to the contemporary aesthetic. The roof of the home reflects the overall simplistic nature of the design. Patina steel garage doors with custom overhangs and lighting treatments completed the look.
