With SO much snow descending on the peaks around Aspen, our team has been making the use of our flex-time, for some epic powder mornings on the mountain. What better way to start the workday!

For the third year in a row, CCA has topped OUTSIDE Magazine’s ‘Best Places to Work’ throughout the US. Ranking #14 out of 100 firms, we’re humbled to be amongst some great company.
Each year, OUTSIDE recognizes the top 100 companies in the United States that help their employees strike the ideal balance between work and play. These companies encourage employees to lead an active lifestyle, are eco-conscious, and prioritize giving back to the community. Created in conjunction with the Outdoor Industry Association and Best Companies Group, the list of winners appears online at www.BestPlacestoWorkOutside.com.
“This year’s list of Best Places to Work highlights employers who go above and beyond for their staff,” said OUTSIDE Online Editor Scott Rosenfield. “Included are organizations that emphasis a healthy work life balance and promote, encourage and reward employees to live active and healthier lives.”
To create the best places to work 2016 list, OUTSIDE started by comparing employers to five core categories, reflecting the magazine’s values and focus: Adventure/Travel, Wellness, Culture, Gear, and Media. OUTSIDE then conducted a rigorous vetting process in partnership with the Best Companies Group to assess the policies, practices, and demographics of hundreds of companies.
Powered by employee workplace reviews and taking into account factors like corporate culture, job satisfaction, work environment and overall employee engagement, the Best Places to Work list represents only the top companies that are not only empowering but also encouraging their employees to live better, healthier and more active lives.
“Making the list three years in a row is a tremendous honor! We strive to create a true work/life balance at CCA, and create a culture that is family-friendly, active in nature, sustainably minded, creatively inspired, and consistently gives back to our community. It has proven instrumental to the happiness of our team and the quality of our work. Congratulations to all of the companies who share this honor.” Charles Cunniffe, Principal
With the homeowners cognizant of the environmental impacts of homebuilding and focused on minimizing their carbon footprint, they set out to carefully design and construct a new residence with a team duly focused on sustainable design. The vision started the day they purchased the property and now, nearing completion, the home is set to achieve certification with the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program.
Charles Cunniffe Architects and builder Structural Associates have worked hand-in-hand throughout the design and construction process to focus on a holistic approach to energy efficiency and green building, while maintaining their focus on outstanding aesthetics and quality. Local consultant Active Energies worked as a third-party verifier for the LEED for Homes program to verify credit items on the project site and work alongside the project team to provide effective verification and engagement with the program.
The LEED program is a rigorous program, administered by the US Green Building Council, involving third-party verification and testing, encompassing a variety of green building measures. Specific measures utilized in this home include:
Outstanding energy performance, including geothermal heat pumps for heating and cooling, a 62 kW photovoltaic onsite solar field for electricity, hydronic roof mounted solar panels, and enhanced insulation and window package
Increased R-value to super insulated exterior and underslab envelope
Drought-tolerant plantings with high efficiency and limited irrigation system
Low flow sinks and toilets
Low VOC interior paint and sealants material
Jobsite waste diversion to reduce the impact on landfills
Fresh air ventilation and automated exhaust to reduce the risk of indoor air pollution and moisture build up
Integrated design process with CCA, Active Energies, Structural Associates and the consultant team
Tested and verified heating system air flows and air tightness performance for energy efficiency
The project was registered with the LEED program while in design by CCA, and an integrated process fostered the early collaboration between CCA’s office and Structural Associates’ construction team.
“Targeting LEED for Homes on such an extraordinary home has been a worthwhile effort by everyone involved. The result is a highly efficient home that is responsible to its surroundings and environment. It’s a true testament that luxury homes can be designed conscientiously.” stated Erica Delak, Project Manager for CCA.
We can’t tell you how proud we are, to have had the opportunity to work with the Town of Telluride, the festival planners, the community and a tight knit group of consultants to deliver an outstanding new performance venue in the coveted Town Park. A tight schedule was met, the sound checks are complete and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival is underway! Thanks to all that worked so hard to complete this very rewarding project!
Weekends are made for friends, the outdoors, and ice cold beer! Our team definitely takes advantage of the fun to be had in Aspen/Snowmass – rain or shine! Pictured Left to Right: Jim (nice pose Jim!), Grant, Jenny, Chad, Ryan, Rich.
We have two exciting projects in the pipeline that are on their way to LEED For Homes certification. Its taken forward-thinking Owners, a dedicated & integrated team and diligence throughout the design and building process to ensure the mission is carried out.
Aiming for a LEED certification, it positioned our team to take a very thorough look into different areas of sustainable design in the earliest parts of project commitments, and also to maintain that commitment throughout the design and building process.
If you are not familiar with LEED For Homes, we encourage you to learn more!
LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Homes is a national residential green building program developed through a consensus process by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
We look forward to sharing these very rewarding and worthwhile projects with you soon!
Its always inspiring to see our projects complete. We had the fortunate opportunity to take our team through a recently completed home in Aspen. Seeing the finer details up close, feeling the volume of the spaces, learning about the sustainable attributes and building systems, etc. was truly awe-inspiring. We are so fortunate to work with the clients we do, and have the opportunity to design the most exquisite structures that we, as designers, dream about.
Another great addition has been added to the CCA Team! A big welcome to Colleen Loughlin, a recent Masters of Architecture graduate from Tulane University. Earning a spot on the Dean’s List and awarded several awards and scholarships throughout her schooling, Colleen joins CCA as Assistant Project Designer. We could not be more thrilled to have such an outstanding young professional on our team, and look forward to introducing her to you.
With summer in full swing, we thought it was time for a new office bike. Thanks to Republic Bikes for our brand new ride! Dave, our finance guru, took it out for a spin yesterday…cheers to summer!
